Genevieve Potts, APRN, MSN, FNP-BC

Genevieve Potts FNP-BC was raised in the Rio Grande Valley and relocated to San Antonio in 1990. Genevieve graduated from the University of the Incarnate Word and began her career as a Registered Nurse at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, in 1994, working in the Emergency Room. She later went on to serve the community as a Home Health nurse before returning to the Emergency Room at North Central Baptist hospital in 2002.

Genevieve returned to school in 2005 and graduated from Texas A&M Corpus Christi, where she received a master’s of Science degree in Nursing, graduating with honors, Sigma Theta Tau, and is currently a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner. She has had additional training in the field of Rheumatology through the American College of Rheumatology’s Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant Postgraduate Rheumatology Training Program. She joined Rheumatology Associates in 2008.

Genevieve has a husband and two children. Her hobbies are swimming, biking and spending time with her family.

Marizu Borrego, PA-C

Marizu Borrego MPAS- PA-C was born in Monterrey, N.L. Mexico. She has lived in San Antonio for the last seven years. Marizu attended medical school at Universidad de Monterrey from 1995-2000. She has an Associate in Arts Degree from Southwest Texas Junior College, where she was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. She then graduated from The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio with a Bachelor of Science in Health Care Sciences and a Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies in 2008. There she was a recipient of The San Antonio Hispanic Foundation scholarship. Before joining Rheumatology Associates, she worked as a Physician’s Assistant in Family Practice and Pain Management.

Marizu loves to spend time with her son. Her hobbies include traveling, reading, and listening to music.

Sarah White, PA-C

Sarah White is from the West Texas area. She attended the University of Texas Permian Basin for her undergraduate studies and then obtained her physician assistant training at Texas Tech Health Science Center in 2001. She spent the first 5 years of her career in Internal Medicine. She relocated to San Antonio with her husband in 2006. Before joining Rheumatology Associates, her clinical experience included the fields of Asthma and Allergy as well as Hematology and Oncology.

Sarah has 2 beautiful daughters, a sweet dog and 2 curious cats. In her free time she enjoys running, traveling and spending time with her family.

Jennifer Zavala, APRN, MSN, FNP-BC

After growing up in Houston Texas, Ms. Zavala moved to San Antonio, where she earned a Bachelors Degree in Nursing from University of Incarnate Word in 1997. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing in 2011 from The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Upon graduation with her Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), she was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau National Nursing Honor Society. She is Board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and holds a certification from the Texas Board of Nursing as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN). She brings 19 year of patient care experience in Intensive Care, Emergency Room, Surgical, Radiology, Internal Medicine, Rheumatology and Primary Care to Rheumatology Associates of South Texas. She is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and Association of Rheumatology Health Professionals. Her personal Nurse Practitioner philosophy includes taking a holistic approach to treating her patients.

Ms. Zavala spends most of her time on the football or baseball sidelines cheering her two sons along. Hobbies include yoga, running and spending time volunteering.

Michelle Hockley, PA-C

Michelle Hockley was raised in several different locations in the United States as well as Germany since her father was in the Army. She moved to San Antonio, Texas and attended Robert G. Cole High School at Ft. Sam Houston. She attended Texas A&M University where she graduated Magna cum Laude. She worked as a research scientist in the Department of Medicine at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Michelle then went on to earn a Master of Science in Environmental Sciences at UTSA and worked in the Environmental, Health, and Safety Department at SeaWorld San Antonio. She also has a Masters of Arts in Teaching from Trinity University and taught science in Northside ISD and NEISD in San Antonio. She attended The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and earned a Masters of Physician Assistant Studies and is a Board Certified Physician Assistant. Before joining Rheumatology Associates, she worked as a Physician Assistant in Family Practice.

Michelle is married and has three children. She enjoys spending time with her family, teaching group fitness classes, and volunteering at her church, her children’s schools, and in the community.

Stella Cooremans-Pena, APRN, MSN, FNP-BC

Stella Cooremans-Pena joined Rheumatology Associates of South Texas in Aug 2018. She obtained her Master of Science in Nursing at the University of Texas Health Science Center of San Antonio in 2015. She has been a Nurse Practitioner for close to 4 years. Prior to specializing in Rheumatology, she did 3 years of Internal Medicine.

Before becoming a Nurse Practitioner, she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of the Incarnate Word. She worked as both a staff nurse and charge nurse in the hospital setting for about 19 years. Throughout her nursing career, she worked in medical surgical, orthopedics and rehab at various hospitals in San Antonio, including Christus Santa Rosa Medical Center, St. Lukes Baptist hospital, Main Methodist hospital and Texsan hospital.

Aside from caring for her patients, Stella’s other interests include spending time with her family and friends, reading, cooking and traveling.

Eduardo Gonzalez, APRN, MSN, FNP-C

Eduardo Gonzalez was born and raised in McAllen, Texas. He attended St. Mary’s University in San Antonio for his undergraduate studies in Economics and International Relations. He later went on to achieve his Master’s degree in International Relations from St. Mary’s. After briefly working as a bank analyst, he decided to change careers and focus on health care. He returned to school and earned his Associate’s degree in Nursing from South Texas College and soon after his Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington. In his nursing career, he has worked in Post-Op Care units, Outpatient Infusion clinics, Oncology centers and most recently, Clinical Documentation programs for two different hospital systems.  He later went on to achieve his Master’s degree in nursing to become a Family Nurse Practitioner from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. He is a board-certified member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. He joined Rheumatology Associates of South Texas in May of 2018.

Eddie has a wife and one daughter. On his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, going to church, reading books about sci-fi, history and current events, cooking and movies.

Katie Nava, DNP, MSN, APRN, FNP-C

Katie Nava was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. Katie completed her undergraduate nursing program from the University of the Incarnate Word in 2011 and began her Registered Nurse career at Methodist Hospital. She worked on a specialty medical unit caring for acutely ill and post-surgical patients. After serving the community for 5 years, she decided to further her education as a nurse practitioner and has worked as an RN for over 8 years.

Katie completed her Master’s Degree in Science with a major as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She graduated with honors in Sigma Theta Tau International Honors Society. Katie is a board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner and Registered Nurse by the Texas Board of Nursing. Once completing her master’s degree in nursing, Katie worked as a Family Nurse Practitioner within a primary care clinic serving underserved children and adult patients for over 4 years. While practicing in the primary care setting, Katie was also attending her Doctoral Degree Program in Science at Grand Canyon University at Phoenix, Arizona. After 2.5 additional years of studying, Katie then received her degree as a Doctor of Nursing Practice and transitioned her career into the rheumatology setting joining the Rheumatologist Associates of South Texas.

She has a passion for making sure everyone receives the best care they deserve. She believes that it is important to build a strong, nurturing provider-patient relationship while embracing new medical treatment and technology advancements when treating her patients in order to provide safe and effective care. On her spare time, she enjoys traveling, painting, running and spending her time with her husband and three kids.

Amanda Gordon, MSN, APRN, FNP-C

Amanda Gordon grew up in North Austin before moving to San Antonio, TX to attend UTSA where she began her undergraduate degree in nursing. She completed her Associate of Applied Science in nursing, degree at Baptist School of Health Professions and then Bachelor of Applied Science degree, at the University of Texas at Arlington. As a Registered Nurse she spent 8 years working in the ICU at Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital. She also spent a short time as a flight nurse on fixed wing aircraft with Air Medical. Amanda continued her education at South University in Austin, TX graduating in 2019, with her master’s degree in nursing as a Certified Family Nurse Practitioner. Before joining RAST, she worked in New Braunfels at an Internal Medicine Clinic.

In her spare time, Amanda loves spending time with her family and friends. She has a daughter, stepdaughter, wonderful husband and two dogs. She enjoys church, traveling, movies, fishing, and baking.

Catherine Torralva, APRN, MSN, FNP-BC

Catherine Torralva is a bilingual board certified Family Nurse Practitioner who is dedicated to delivering high quality patient care and has had the privilege to take care of patients since 2008. She is a proud graduate from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio where she graduated with honors and was a member of the Sigma Theta Tau honors society. Her career in healthcare ranges from experience as a Registered Nurse to a Nurse Practitioner with a focus on taking care of patients across the entirety of their lifespan.

She began her career as a Registered Nurse where she cared for patients with orthopedic and post operative surgical needs. Currently, she has been practicing as a Board Certified Nurse Practitioner helping her patients meet their health goals in order to obtain a better quality of life. The passion that she brings to the clinic allows for her patients to feel cared for and valued because she only works in the best interest of their health. All of these experiences have allowed her to cultivate her skills as an experienced Nurse Practitioner who is capable of taking care of your Rheumatologic needs.

Jing Li, APRN, MSN, FNP-BC

Jing Li was born and raised in Beijing, China. She moved to California in 2001 and graduated from De Anza College Nursing program in 2008. After working as a Registered nurse at Riverview Regional Medical Center for a few years, she attended New York University and obtain a Master of Science in Nursing in 2013. Jing has been practicing as a Rheumatology nurse practitioner since then and loves what she is doing.

Jing is an active member of the American Nurse Association (ANA) and Rheumatology Nurse Association (RNA).

Jing and her family are happily living in San Antonio. She enjoys traveling with her son. When she has time, she loves reading and cooking.
